| #OccupyHHS
This November, the Editors have a question on their minds: Hastings High School, why aren’t we angry? Civil disobedience is in the air, just a couple of miles downstream from our town, and it seems everyone is infuriated at the state of the national situation. Occupy Wall Street is stronger than ever. The state of our economy is no joking matter, as the national debt becomes a bottomless pit of imaginary money. At HHS financial woes seem to be ignored on the whole, with the exception of senior college-tuition-panic, as students seem to be buying more $8 Scapps sandwiches than ever. During the Vietnam War students staged protests and just last year there was a walkout in support of the teacher’s unions; Hastings students have exhibited the ability to take a stand. So why aren’t we behind what is quickly becoming one of the most significant movements of our time? HHS, this is a call to action. To motivate the student body in support of this movement, the Editors would like to dedicate this issue to the brave citizens who sat in Zuccotti Park and continue to fight for our future. |

Based on what I had read in the news and seen on TV, I assumed I was going to witness a radical protest, complete with pitchforks, burning bras, and stirring folk protest songs. Instead, I was greeted by a slightly more low-key demonstration, what I can best describe as a Marxist cocktail party: lots of people milling about in the tent-filled plaza, discussing the pressing topics of the day, primarily the vast economic difference between the richest 1% of Americans and the remaining 99% of the...
